My Hardest Days
03:56
|
|||
It's been a while since I wrote to you, my old friend that I once knew
I hope you're happy now in what you chose to do and that forgiveness has found you too
Well I've been good and I've been bad, I've been happy I've been sad
But through all the lines I found the light from darker times to help me feel alright
I'll let the hands of my father give me strength, and let the eyes of my mother teach me how to live in grace
And the words from another wrapping me in warm embrace to get me through my hardest days
Throughout my years there's been pain masked by the whiskey in my veins
And all that time searching for someone else to blame instead of one to keep me sane
I'll let the hands of my father give me strength, and let the eyes of my mother teach me how to live in grace
And the words from another wrapping me in warm embrace to get me through my hardest days

I'm on a summer drive to nowhere with an open road, a tank of gas,
And a brand new unused lonely map that I won't open until I'm coming home
Along the road I see a man with an outstretched thumb and guitar in hand and he looks a little bit like Elvis
I say "how you doing, do you need a ride?" He says "uh-thank ya very much that would be nice" and so we start to drive
And he sings me a little "love me tender love me so", he asks me where I'm going and I say I don't know
He laughs that it's nice to get away from everything, and when we reach his stop he says "Thank you boy, you are a king"
I'm on a summer drive to nowhere with an open road, a tank of gas,
And a brand new unused lonely map that I won't open until I'm coming home
Further along I meet a group with funny accents picking fruits in a strawberry field
I pull on over, introduce myself, one says "my name's John and we could sure use help" and already this is so much better than yesterday
He said "we're out here workin 8 days a week, but I feel fine with all these strawberries to eat". I don't mind I don't have anywhere to be and he says "thank you boy, you are a king"
I'm on a summer drive to nowhere with an open road, a tank of gas,
And a brand new unused lonely map that I won't open until I'm coming home
Well I'm almost on empty and about to head back until I see a man dressed all in black looking like he was going to a funeral
I pull on over and I offer him a lift to the next town and he says "no thank you I'm waiting for the man to come around"
So I ask "hey can you please step out of the rain" and he says "the rain don't hurt, it don't cause me any pain"
So I ask "hey stranger do you need anything" and he says "thank you boy, you are a king"
I'm on a summer drive to nowhere with an open road, a tank of gas,
And a brand new unused lonely map that I won't open until I'm coming home
Well I'm coming home

Sing about the trees, sing about the love that brings you down to your knees
I'll sing about your heart and how every word you speak is a work of art
It's a modern age I'm a modern sage, and music seems to be on a modern page
It's a modern age you're a modern sage, and music seems to faux in modern rage
Sing about the stars and the brightness of the light we wish was ours
Sing about days when the simple life was meaningful it's own way
It's a sacred age I'm a sacred mage, and music is always played on a sacred stage
It's a sacred age I'm a sacred made, and we sing to let the beast out of their cage...away

Queens
03:48
|
|||
I would drive all night just to tell you that everything is gonna be alright
And I will hold your hand and together we can mend the heart broken by another man
I could fall asleep to a melody that's meant for me to sing me off into my dreams
But I will hold my breath in my lungs where it belongs because I've given it so much in song to you
To you
I sing stores of Kings, Queens, and Monsters. Of heroes and impostors
But none of them compare to the lives we live every day, the choices made the things we say
This is a promise to the man I was before and the woman that he now adores
Treat her like a queen the way your grandpa taught you to when you were young, I'll do that for you
For you
And I know it's not fair for me to say to you just how much I care
I know it's not fair, but I'm not sorry. I'm not sorry

Pause the Story
03:17
|
|||
It's never been an easy thing for me to say how I feel because that would make it real and I'd be exposed
And it's never been an easy thing for me to deal with rejection, I think I need an intervention for my tongue
So can we pause the story right here before I get it wrong
Can we pause the story right here before you become a song
I think a thing that terrifies me is you might say yes, then I'd have no distress, could I still create
I'm addicted to a certain kind of pain and something to write about, to occupy my mind about, I should choose peace
So can we pause the story right here before you get it wrong
Can we pause the story right here before I become a song
So can we pause the story right here before we get it wrong
Can we pause the story right here before we become a song

Anthem of a Lonely City
03:36
|
|||
The anthem of a lonely city on an island of air
The wind sings so soft and pretty pretending to care
And the earth sits beneath the clouds awaiting the sound
Of the anthem of a lonely city to swell out loud
And they sing War, War Woe, War Woe
And the people in this lonely city, they live in despair
Because they float so close to heaven with no grace to share
And the moon sits above in space, ignoring the sound
Of the anthem of a lonely city still gravity bound
And they sing Woe, War Woe, War Woe

Mask
03:47
|
|||
Is anybody out there still honest
Is anybody out there still true
We lie for mystery, live inside our own history
Is anybody out there still honest
And I know you're scared, we've all been hurt before
But are you prepared to show me something more
And not a mask
I'll show you what it takes to be honest
And open up a hole in my chest
And bleed out memories of why the monsters in my closet are scared of me
I'll show you what it takes to be honest
Just know I'm scared, I'd be crazy not to be
But I'm prepared to show you all of me
And not a mask

Monsters
04:18
|
|||
Well daddy's, daddy's little girl in the day and punching bag at night
Daddy daddy he would say that what he is doing is right
She has to learn, and he has to show her the way. She has to hurt, she has to learn to fear the pain
Oh don't be scared, and don't you dare compare him to a monster
He's no monster
Well mama, she would just sit and cry, her way of giving a fuck
Thankful that he spared the young boys eyes when she had no such luck
But she grew strong, she learned how to get along. But she was wrong for letting it go on so long
Oh don't be scared, and don't you dare compare them to a monster
They're not monsters
And the children, they would just run and play safe throughout their day
But the boy would grind his teeth at night while the daughter prepared to fight
Her screams became his nightly lullaby, he screams became the monster
There's no monsters, no
There's a monster

Fortune
03:34
|
|||
I hope fortune smiles on you through sonic residue
And if your kingdom falls, I hope you will stand tall
I hope the wind can bring you truth and memories from your youth
May your ears be clad in gold through even sour notes
I hope the ghosts of giants past taught lessons that will last
And may your mind please stay complete, if only when we meet
I hope fortune smiles on you through sonic residue
And if your kingdom falls, I hope you will stand tall
I hope you have found some hope since the last time that we spoke
I hope you are now okay and have found the strength to stay
I hope everything you've heard can help you through your hurt
And I know not every song we sing is meant for listening
I hope fortune smiles on you through sonic residue
And if your kingdom falls, I hope you will stand tall
I hope fortune smiles on you through sonic residue
And if your kingdom falls, I hope you will stand tall
